Hi! My name is Stephanie and I am from Alberta, Canada. The next two years of my life are going to be spent abroad though, studying at UWC Adriatic from 2016-2018. I love science, especially biology, and my hobbies include playing basketball, cycling and sewing. Last summer I cycled in Argentina with some other youth from Calgary and it instilled me with a sense of wanderlust and a desire to travel.
United World Colleges (UWC) are a network of schools spread through countries around the world. UWC’s values include peace, personal challenge, compassion, respect for the environment and integrity just to name a few. UWC teaches the IB (International Baccalaureate) curriculum, and by doing so also promotes creativity, action and service. National committees are in charge of selection, and many UWC students receive a full or partial scholarship.
The specific United World College I will be attending, UWC Adriatic, was established in 1982. There are just under 200 students attending the college. It is mandatory that each of the students take an Italian course. UWC Adriatic is located in the town of Duino, in Italy, near Trieste.
